AMIA 2017 CRI Year in Review

AMIA 2017 Year in Review Files and Presentation

This page contains information about the 2017 Clinical Research Informatics (CRI) Year-In-Review session that I conducted at the conclusion of the 2017 AMIA Joint Summits on Translational Science. Background information, Files, and Bibliographic details are listed below, as is the slide presentation.
Background:
Starting in 2011, I have been conducting the annual “CRI year in review” session at the AMIA Joint Summits for Translational Science. This concluding keynote presentation mirrors similar presentations at the AMIA TBI Summit and the AMIA Annual Symposium. Building on the approaches used by Drs. Russ Altman and Dan Masys who conduct those other years-in-review, the CRI year-in-review involves a combination of PubMed searches, recommendations from CRI colleagues, and additional notable events that I select to highlight.

As with the other sessions, the items presented during the session are ultimately selected by the presenter using an informal process, do not represent a systematic or comprehensive review, and certainly do not represent an organizational statement nor position of AMIA. I hope you find this useful. Below information on this year’s session, accompanied by links to the presentation.

Details of search methodology:
  1. Initial search by MESH terms: ("Biomedical Research"[Mesh] NOT "Genetic Research"[Mesh]) NOT "Translational Research"[Mesh]) AND "Informatics"[Mesh] AND "2016/01/01"[PDat] : "2017/02/01"[Pdat])  This returned 458 articles. Limiting to those in English, with Abstracts, yielded 374.
  2. Additional relevant articles through: Recommendations from colleagues; Other keyword searches using terms like: Clinical Trials, Clinical Research, Informatics, Translational, Data Warehouse, Research Registries, Recruitment. Adding those to the 374 above, yielded 426 articles.

Based on the above methodology, 201 CRI-relevant articles emerged, and from those I selected the following ~47 articles as notable contributions to the CRI literature over the past 1+ years that I discussed during the presentation.
